How do I register for the program?
You can register online at http://www.gepark.org or in person at any of our Glen Ellyn Park District office locations (Spring Ave, Main St, and ASFC).
What equipment is needed to play?
All classes require a lacrosse stick and most will also need full lacrosse padding and equipment which includes helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a chest protector. Rental equipment packages are available for each season.
When does the Spring season start?
The first practices will begin the first week of April. Practices will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please try to make as many sessions as possible.
What team will my son play on?
The teams are first decided by their age levels and then by skill level. We will be holding evaluations during the Spring Preseason (registration required).
Regular season practices will be as follows:
Tuesday, Thursday for skills and drills.
The first games will be the first weekend in April and the final week of the IBLA playoffs will be held in early June. The Lacrosse league the boys will play in is trying to schedule most games on Saturdays and Sundays.
We play in the rain. Most practices and games will stay on as scheduled unless there is severe weather. Please check the GEPD Weather Hotline or call 630-984-5075 before coming out to Newton Park for any practices or home games if there is a chance of cancellation. If there is a cancellation at one of the other IBLA locations, the parent coordinator for the team will contact all parents.
Where will games and practices be?
Home games and practices will be held at Newton Park. Games typically last about 90 minutes and practices will typically be 75 minutes. Some IBLA games will be played in neighboring communities.
Will my son travel?
Yes the 3rd-8th grade boys will play in the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association (IBLA). They have teams from all over DuPage County (Wheaton, Naperville, Western Springs, etc). Please see the link for more information.
What is the competition level like?
The IBLA stratifies the league into A, B, levels. Most park district teams will play at the B level which is structured for beginner lacrosse players. The A level is for experienced club teams that play year round. However, each age group will practice together with teams broken out for weekend games.
My son is playing 1st/2nd grade lacrosse, will he be traveling?
For the most part, the 1st/2nd grade division is an in-house league whereby the kids get divided up each week for games by talent (there are not assigned teams). This allows the kids to play each position and learn the sport over all.
